The Norwalk Museum is located on the corner of N. Main St. and Marshall St. in the heart
of South Norwalk. The Museum has within itself a gift shop, 3 storefront exhibits, The
Lockwood Gallery, the Cuneo Conference Room, and
its archives. As you enter on the left is the Museum Shop, which features Raggedy Ann
dolls and cards by Laughing Elephant, watercolor cards by noted artist Cassie Foss, books,
postcards and other Norwalk memorabilia. On your
right is the Lockwood Gallery, which has hosted many exhibits in the past two years,
including exhibits by local artists, the Urban Artists Initiative, and most recently, an
exhibit explaining the WPA projects in Norwalk during the Great Depression. Currently the
Lockwood Gallery is the focus of an inventory of the Museum's extensive art collection and
the creation of a database of catalogued material.

The Museum's Rotunda offers a sampling of exhibits including Norwalk pottery and several
photographic exhibits on Norwalk's oystering industry and railroads. Farther into the
Museum are exhibits of items manufactured in Norwalk over the years. There is also an
exhibit of antique and modern Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and books, which the Museum
believes was created in Norwalk, in the Silvermine studio of Johnny Gruelle. In 2002, the
Norwalk Museum assisted Raggedy Ann in becoming the newest member of the National Toy Hall
of Fame by requesting Museum visitors to sign a petition asking that Raggedy Ann be
included in this collection of famous toys. The Museum sent over 600 signatures to the
National Toy Hall of Fame.
In the back of the Museum is the Merchants Court which hosts four large exhibit windows.
One features Norwalk clocks; another an exhibit of hats manufactured in Norwalk hat
factories; a third, a sampling of Victorian toys and games; and an extensive collection of
Norwalk pottery, some of which was created by Smith & Day artisans in the pottery once
located at the foot of Mill Hill. The Cuneo Conference Room upstairs features a large
carpeted meeting area and is decorated with many old maps and various pictures from the
Museum's collections. The Museum offers the conference room for
meetings. If interested in holding a meeting at the Norwalk Museum, please call
203-866-0202 and ask for Linda Hayes. The Museum's extensive archives
is also located on the second floor. This archives contains records of Norwalk's business
past, many maps, documents, books, literature, photographs, postcards and newspapers, as
well as many other objects relating to Norwalk's 350-year history. Researchers may utilize
the many documents and other items in the Museum's archives by calling 203-866-0202 and
making an appointment with Museum staff.
